The Wadern autumn and game market

On Saturday, 24 October, the Wadern autumn and game market is open from 9 am to 3 pm, on Sunday, 25 October, from 12 to 6 pm. Every year it opens the Wadern game weeks, a month in which the town's restaurants put game dishes on the menu.

The stalls sell wild boar bratwurst, venison salami, game ham and game goulash, along with pumpkin soup and brandies from Hochwald distilleries that can be tasted at the stand. There are also regional wines, honey from beekeepers in the Saar-Hunsrück nature park, mushrooms, fresh pumpkins, felt work and wood carvings.

Hunting-horn choirs from Wadern and Grimburg play all day Saturday.

On Sunday alphorn players take over, and live acoustic music follows from 3 pm. A falconer shows native birds of prey, the nature park runs a mushroom advice desk, and beekeepers explain their work at an open hive.

The market is regarded as the oldest purely culinary autumn market in the Saar-Hunsrück nature park and the Hochwald. On Sunday the shops in the town centre are open as well.

Funfairs, jazz and art in a World Heritage site

In Dillingen, the EINklang festival takes place on Saturday at the Lokschuppen: 13 acts with around 150 young musicians with and without disabilities, guests from Bochnia in Poland and from Metz, sign-language and written interpreters. That evening the Stadthalle in St. Ingbert hosts the fill in Jazz Festival for the second time, with tickets from 40 euros. The Herbstfest Eschringen runs from 8 to 11 pm at the village community hall in Eschringen, the smallest district of Saarbrücken.

The Wendelskirmes in St. Wendel ends on Sunday: the funfair on the Bosenbach grounds, with more than 50 showmen, a Ferris wheel and a ghost train, stays open until 25 October, and a big fireworks display closes it. The pilgrimage week at the Wendalinus Basilica already ends on Saturday. In Marpingen, the Berschweiler Kirmes runs until Sunday, 25 October, with the local clubs' catering tent, rides and live music.

The Urban Art Biennale runs on the Völklinger Hütte site until 15 November, daily from 10 am to 7 pm. 55 artists from 17 countries show site-specific works in the UNESCO World Heritage site, from murals to wooden sculptures and video mappings. A day ticket costs 17 euros, 15 euros reduced, and under-18s get in free.

Summer time ends in the night to Sunday: at 3 am the clocks go back to 2 am.
