Sunday morning belongs to the academixer cellar. That is where the Lachmesse Leipzig begins on October 25. Events in Saxony on 24–25 October 2026 lead to Leipzig and Ohorn.
The Lachmesse and its opening matinee
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 11 am, the Lachmesse Leipzig opens with the matinee “Die Wörter der Sachsen” in the academixer cellar, where Tom Pauls and Peter Ufer take a humorous look at the Saxon dialect and Saxon quirks.
Daylight saving time ends overnight into Sunday, when 3 am becomes 2 am.
The festival has existed since 1991 and reaches its 36th edition in 2026. It is the largest international cabaret and small-stage festival in Germany. Around 90 ensembles and performers spread over eight days and 14 guest-performance venues in Leipzig, among them the Pfeffermühle, the academixer, the Funzel, the SANFTWUT, the Central, the Moritzbastei, the Krystallpalast, the Schauspielhaus and the Oper Leipzig. The Pfeffermühle dates from 1954, the academixer from 1966.
The Leipziger Löwenzahn award follows on opening day. In 2025 it went to Michael Krebs, who accompanies the 2026 opening with music. Single tickets cost 18 to 45 euros depending on the show.
A jazz finale and a village stage on Saturday
Saturday, October 24, 2026 is the eighth and last day of the Leipzig Jazz Days. The festival marks its 50th anniversary in 2026. The Jazzclub Leipzig has run it since 1976, and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is its patron. The concerts take place at changing venues, from the Schaubühne Lindenfels and the Werk 2 to the Thomaskirche.
In the district of Bautzen, in western Upper Lusatia near Pulsnitz, the Dorftheater Ohorn stages its yearly theatre evening in the Mittelschänke. Entertainment, music, wit and stories blend together, and volunteers from Ohorn play the parts. This year's run begins on Thursday and ends on Saturday. Saturday has two performances, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.
Coffee and cake are served before the afternoon performance.
