The final at the Renaissance-Theater

The Poetry Slam Grand Prix Deutschland brings together the champions of the German-speaking federal states in Berlin. Between 14 and 16 state champions take part, joined by representatives from Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol, and the final on Saturday takes place at the Renaissance-Theater, a classic Berlin private theater in the style of the 1920s.

Texts are judged in a knockout system, and the audience decides through digital voting on a web app. There is no classic jury. Between the texts come hosting and musical interludes, plus breaks for the vote.

The winner is considered the “champion of champions” for the following year. The organizer is the Berlin slam collective Kiezpoeten.

Tickets are sold in advance through Reservix, and festival passes come at a discount. To reach the Renaissance-Theater, take the U1 to Uhlandstraße or the S-Bahn to Savignyplatz, about five minutes on foot from either.

Funfair and beer tent

The Berliner Herbstrummel ends its month on the Zentraler Festplatz in Reinickendorf on Sunday, October 25. Entry to the grounds is free. Around 80 showmen have set up dodgems, a Ferris wheel, a ghost train and a family water ride, the grounds open 2 to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, and rides are paid individually, usually 3 to 8 euros.

On Saturday the Spandau Oktoberfest at the Citadel has its last evening. Live bands and traditional brass bands play in the tent, and the tables fill with pork knuckle and half a roast chicken. The box office opens at 4 p.m., admission from age 18.

Barrio | Bairro Berlin runs until October 31, and the main venue of the Latin American literature festival is the Ibero-American Institute. The Month of Contemporary Music celebrates its 10th anniversary edition until the same day, with concerts, performances and installations.

At the Haus der Berliner Festspiele in Wilmersdorf, the Performing Arts Season has been running since October 14, a season of dance, theater and performance until January. Since 2023 it has gathered names here from Marina Abramović to the Japanese collective Dumb Type.

Daylight saving time ends in the night from Saturday to Sunday, when clocks go back from 3 a.m. to 2 a.m.
