On Sunday the Oktobervolksfest in the Neuer Lustgarten comes to an end.

The Oktobervolksfest in the Neuer Lustgarten

Since 2 October, the Oktobervolksfest Potsdam has stood in the Neuer Lustgarten, rides and stalls open at 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday, and Sunday is the last day of this classic autumn funfair.

The Neuer Lustgarten lies in Potsdam's city centre, between the Stadtschloss, now the seat of the state parliament, and the Havel.

A Ferris wheel and roller coasters stand next to dodgems and a wave swinger. Children's carousels, side shows, shooting galleries and claw machines stand alongside.

There are roasted almonds, gingerbread hearts, bratwurst and lángos. The beer tents serve Brandenburg beer with live Schlager music.

Admission is free. Visitors pay only for rides, food and drinks. Weekends are the busiest days. From Berlin, the S7 or the RE1 takes about 30 minutes to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof, and the walk continues from there.

More to do in Potsdam and Lusatia

The Horror Nights at Filmpark Babelsberg take place on Saturday night, doors open at 10:40 pm, and at 11 pm the horror show starts with walk-through areas and scare actors. Entry is only for visitors aged 16 and over with ID.

At the Rechenzentrum Potsdam, the PACE Festival combines exhibitions, performances, DJ sets and concerts.

In Altdöbern, ROHKUNSTBAU 31 shows works by 16 international artists in the palace under the title “Die Kunst des Überschreitens”, and the palace is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 5 pm.

At the Kunstgussmuseum in Lauchhammer, the special exhibition “Glühendes Erbe” ends on Sunday. It tells how Benedicta Margaretha Freifrau von Löwendal founded the ironworks in 1725, and it is open on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm for 7 euros.

The Peitzer Karpfenwochen have run since late September: carp menus in taking-part restaurants for roughly 18 to 35 euros, plus pond tours and boat rides on the Hammergraben.

In the night to Sunday the clocks go back from 3 am to 2 am as summer time ends.
