Autumn Fair in the St. Wendel Region

When the cherry trees along the Saar River are already losing their leaves and the first mists are drifting over the hills of the St. Wendel region, the fair season begins. The Kirmes Berschweiler is one of the later fairs in Saarland and celebrates its peak at the end of October — a welcome opportunity to mark the transition into winter with a village-wide celebration.

Colorful, Traditional, Sociable

Berschweiler is a district of the municipality of Marpingen in the St. Wendel district and is located in the rolling hills of the Bliesgau. The fair is a real village festival: a few amusement rides for the children, the catering tent of the local associations, live music from regional bands, bratwurst, Lyoner, and Schwenker (types of grilled sausage) from the barbecue. The venue is the central festival grounds in the middle of the district.

Three to Four Days of Festivities

The festival weekend typically runs from Thursday to Sunday, with a quieter opening evening, a lively Saturday, a family-friendly Sunday, and a traditional 'Kerb' (fair) Monday in some years. The catering is handled by the Berschweiler local council together with the local associations, and the proceeds go towards village projects.

Three Carnival Strongholds in a Network

Like Alsweiler and Urexweiler, Berschweiler is one of the three carnival strongholds of the municipality of Marpingen — the Interest Group for Carnival Berschweiler is also the main organizer of the Berschweiler carnival parade on Carnival Saturday. The club life sustains the entire festival calendar year.

Discover the St. Wendel Region

A visit to the fair can be perfectly combined with a tour through the St. Wendel region: Lake Bostal, the largest inland body of water in Saarland, the Erbeskopf massif, the historic town silhouette of St. Wendel with the Basilica of St. Wendelin, or the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve invite you to linger.
