Free music festival for all generations in the Kurpark
With the Kleinstadt-Open-Air, the Eulenspiegel town of Mölln in the district of Herzogtum Lauenburg, Schleswig-Holstein, gets its first major free music festival. The organizer is Tourismus- und Stadtmarketing Mölln. The venue is the Kurpark with its paved sand paths and its immediate proximity to the historic town center. For three days, the park will become an open-air stage under the open sky.
The festival operates with two stages — and this is intentional:
A large street food area with culinary classics and specialties stretches between the stages: from flatbreads and mushroom pans to crêpes and desserts. The Fun Area provides entertainment between performances, and the atmosphere in the Kurpark is familiar rather than anonymous. Dogs on leashes are welcome, paved paths and accessible toilets make the festival accessible for people with limited mobility, older visitors, and families with strollers.
Free admission is the program: The festival is financed by gastronomy and city funding — and by the explicit request of the organizer to eat generously at the stands and give tips to the artists. Mölln is thus relying on a model that is primarily known in Schleswig-Holstein from Kieler Woche, Lübeck Sommermarkt, or Schleswig Stadtgarten — but rarely in this form on a small-town scale.
With the weekend of September 4th to 6th, 2026, Tourismus- und Stadtmarketing Mölln is establishing a new, free music festival in the Kurpark. Three days of live music on two stages, from maritime folk to ABBA tribute to party rock — and in parallel, a Local Stage with acts from Mölln and the district of Herzogtum Lauenburg.
The booking process is underway, and further artists will be announced shortly before the festival on moelln-tourismus.de and Instagram (@kleinstadtopen). The Main Stage and Local Stage will play the park simultaneously, with street food stalls and the Fun Area providing the festival atmosphere in between.
Updates and the full schedule will be published on moelln-tourismus.de and on Instagram @kleinstadtopen.
