In Stuttgart-South, on the first weekend of September, a race Germany has never hosted before gets underway. On September 5-6, 2026, events and festivals fill Baden-Württemberg: Red Bull Cerro Abajo debuts in Germany, Bietigheim-Bissingen marks the 90th edition of its horse market, and Iffezheim's Grand Week draws to a close.
Red Bull Cerro Abajo in Stuttgart
With Red Bull Cerro Abajo, the world's biggest urban downhill mountain bike race series arrives in Germany for the first time on September 5-6, 2026. Stuttgart-South also hosts the season finale.
A city course right through the state capital.
The route runs from the Teehaus in Weißenburgpark down to Wilhelmsplatz, covering around 150 metres of elevation. Tight corners, staircases, cobbled lanes and artificial obstacles alternate along the way through Stuttgart-South, with riders hitting high top speeds in between.
Cerro Abajo translates as downhill.
Stuttgart becomes the backdrop for two days to a race that usually plays out in entirely different cities. Here it runs straight through the state capital, between parkland and public square.
For the world's biggest series of its kind, this marks its first stop on German soil, and its last of the year. September 5, 2026, opens a double first: for Germany, and for the closing of the season.
The rest of the weekend
In Bietigheim-Bissingen, the Bietigheim horse market reaches its 90th edition, grown out of a horse and cattle market granted by Duke Karl Eugen of Württemberg in 1792, with a riding tournament, seven S-level competitions and horse judging. In Iffezheim, the Grand Week closes with its final two race days, the high point of the German flat-racing year, after six group races and three listed races over the week.
On the Hohennagold castle ruin, Nagold's Traumzeit holds its premiere on September 5, replacing the town's former castle festivals with stilt walkers, acrobats, storytellers and enchanted trees for families. In Langenburg, the Princely Garden Days turn the Renaissance castle above the Jagst valley into one of South Germany's largest garden fairs, with around 170 exhibitors of plants, garden furniture and landscaping.
For its third and final date of the year, the Heidelberg castle illumination bathes the ruin in red Bengal fire before fireworks rise over the Neckar, a nod to the town fires of 1689 and 1693. In Karlsruhe, guests at Dîner en Blanc dress entirely in white, with white tables and a self-brought three-course meal, at a location revealed only shortly beforehand.
At the Hockenheimring, the GLÜCKSGEFÜHLE Festival brings David Guetta among others, in a fourth edition that calls itself Germany's biggest music festival, with more than 40 hours of live music across three stages. In Ubstadt-Weiher, athletes race the Hardtsee Triathlon in its 37th edition, swimming, cycling and running as part of the Baden Triathlon Cup.
