Germany premiere of the world's largest urban downhill MTB race series — 2026 season finale in the Stuttgart basin with global elite and free admission
Red Bull Cerro Abajo is the world's leading urban downhill mountain bike race series. Born in Valparaíso (Chile) — hence the Spanish name "downhill" — the format has evolved into a season with multiple stops across four continents. Riders race their MTBs through real cities: over stairs, walls, house facades, and backyards. In September 2026, Stuttgart will host the first German stop and simultaneously the season finale — the decision for the overall World Series title will be made in the "Kessel" (basin).
The course starts at the Teehaus in Weißenburgpark above Stuttgart-Süd and leads down about 150 meters of altitude to Wilhelmsplatz. It features asphalt, concrete, stairs, cobblestone alleys, and artificially built obstacles — drop-ins, wallrides, steep turns. Riders reach top speeds of around 60 km/h through urban topography that normally has nothing to do with mountain bike racing. This very combination — city + downhill race — makes the format so spectacular.
The stars of the discipline are expected, including Tomáš Slavík, multiple Cerro Abajo winner, and the three-time German MTB champion Johannes Fischbach, who will be competing on home turf. The international elite of urban downhill will battle for the season title — Stuttgart is the final of the four season stops, and the 2026 champion will be crowned here.
Saturday, September 5: Qualification runs during the day, introduction of the course and athletes. Sunday, September 6: Final runs — the grand finale of the World Series, followed by the award ceremony. Exact start times will be communicated in advance on the official event page and via the City of Stuttgart.
As with all Red Bull city races, the event is free for spectators along the track. There are designated spectator zones along the course — from Weißenburgpark over the stairs and main thoroughfares to Wilhelmsplatz. Due to the course running through dense city neighborhoods, traffic restrictions are to be expected — please use public transport.
The premiere edition in Germany also serves as the season finale for the Red Bull Cerro Abajo World Series 2026. After three season stops worldwide, the overall title will be decided in Stuttgart. The urban city course through Stuttgart-Süd combines steep sections, stair passages, cobblestone alleys, and artificial drop-in sections — a format never before seen in Germany in this form.
