The Block Party of Stuttgart-Süd
The Marienplatzfest is one of Stuttgart's most distinctive summer events: For four days, Marienplatz in the urban district of Stuttgart-Süd is completely filled with stages, market stalls, catering stations, and art installations. From Thursday, July 30, to Sunday, August 2, 2026, the festival becomes the state capital's biggest block party. Organized by an informal initiative of restaurateurs, artists, and cultural creators from the district — completely free of charge.
Four Days of Live Music — Folk, Electro-Pop, Indie
Live bands shape the musical program: folk acts in the traditional singer-songwriter style, electro-pop for the younger generation, indie bands from Stuttgart's vibrant scene, plus international guest acts. The program runs in parallel on two to three stages — visitors switch between them as they please. The concerts are continuously free.
Silent Disco Overnight
A special invention of the Marienplatzfest is the overnight silent disco: When the stage speakers are turned off to spare the residents, visitors receive wireless headphones and continue dancing — silence in the square, party in their headphones. The silent disco typically runs late into the night and is one of Stuttgart's most original urban party formats.
Children's Program, Urban Art, Street Food
During the day, there is an extensive children's program — play stations, craft activities, child-friendly concerts, and workshops. Urban art shapes the visual appearance of the festival: graffiti artists work live on walls, installations made of recycled materials decorate the square, pop-up galleries showcase young art. At the food stalls, there's everything from Swabian Spätzle and Maultaschen to vegan bowls and international street food.
Stuttgart-Süd — Young Urban District
The Stuttgart-Süd district is one of the state capital's liveliest urban neighborhoods — with students, families, artists, restaurateurs, and active club life. Marienplatz in front of the Mathäus Church is its central square. With the Stadtbahn (light rail) lines U1 and U14, it is excellently connected, surrounded by cafés, bars, and independent shops.
Festival Tip for Young Stuttgart Residents
The Marienplatzfest is one of the most important summer events for Stuttgart's young urban scene — a whole weekend in one square, free of charge, with good music and an alternative atmosphere. If you want to experience Stuttgart beyond the spring festivals and the Cannstatter Volksfest, this is the place to be.
