Three days of live music on Schillerplatz with 80s pop, Big Band, Crossover Orchestra, and Latino Festival
With the Schiller Events, Kaiserslautern gets a young but rapidly established open-air format right on Schillerplatz. For three days, the central square between the pedestrian zone and the Pfalztheater transforms into an open-air stage, showcasing a cross-section of the Westpfalz music scene and regional guests. Free admission – the accessible offer brings together audiences of all generations.
The program aims for diversity: Classic 80s pop cover bands stand alongside a Big Band presenting swing and jazz standards with a large ensemble. The "Symphonic Cinema" format performs classic film scores in a concert setting usually reserved for the concert hall. With the KL Proms, the festival brings a format inspired by London's Proms to the stage, with a Palatinate twist, and the Latino festival adds Caribbean and South American rhythms.
The highlight of the third festival day is the performance by the Crossover Orchestra Westpfalz, which presents genre-spanning arrangements between classical, pop, rock, and jazz. The ensemble unites musicians from the entire region and exemplifies the vibrant amateur and semi-professional music scene of the Westpfalz, which reaches a particular density in Kaiserslautern.
Schillerplatz, named after the poet Friedrich Schiller and surrounded by the Pfalztheater and representative administrative buildings, offers an atmospheric open-air backdrop. In summer weather, the surrounding cafés and restaurants fill up, and the square becomes the city's collective living room. The Schiller Events fit seamlessly into Kaiserslautern's dense 2026 event calendar, which is marked by the city's 750th anniversary.
Three days, multiple musical languages, one square: The Schiller Events combine 80s pop, Big Band classics, symphonic film music, KL Proms, and a Latino festival into a dense open-air program on Schillerplatz. The detailed program will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of the previous year:
