The Altstadtfete around the Pfaffenteich

The Altstadtfete is the state capital's new big town festival and runs from Friday until Sunday, October 11. The former Altstadtfest paused in 2024 and 2025. The city has now relaunched the format and organises it itself, through its marketing and economic departments. The new name stands for a changed concept: Altstadtfest, Stadtfete and the Lichterbummel light walk merge into a single weekend.

On Saturday, October 10, 2026, the festival spreads over four areas of the old town. At the Schlachtermarkt, hands-on activities and offers for families take centre stage, along with a circus programme for children. The market square belongs to music, dance and food. On the south shore of the Pfaffenteich, DJs, a dance floor and lounge areas shape the evenings, while the north shore has fairground rides and classic funfair mood.

Light installations and illuminated facades link the squares into a walk through the old town at night. A silent disco in the old town lanes is among the highlights.

All festival areas are within walking distance, and the old town lies close to Schwerin central station. Town festivals in Schwerin are usually free to enter, while rides, food and drinks cost extra on site.

Saturday between Karlshagen, Stralsund and Löcknitz

On the beach forecourt at Karlshagen, giant kites and handmade artist models rise into the sky on 10.10.26 and again on Sunday. The Usedom Kite Festival reaches its 14th edition, and entry is free. The kite sand-sculpture contest runs on Saturday from 15:30 to 17:00, and the award ceremony with the handover of the »Draki«, the Usedom kite Oscar, follows on Sunday at 15:30.

On Saturday, the Rügen Bridge in Stralsund is closed to traffic. At the Sparkassen Rügen Bridge Marathon, every route crosses the structure, from the full marathon and half marathon to the 3-kilometre children's run, with views across the Strelasund to the World Heritage city.

The Tüffelfest at the Satow church ruin revolves around the potato, Tüffel in Low German, on Saturday from 5 to 10 pm: the association Lebendige Steine serves regional recipes among the walls of the early Gothic ruin. In Löcknitz, the Heimat- und Burgverein pours wine on the same day at the Löcknitz Wine Festival at the castle, in the castle cellar and the castle gallery, with Federweißer, onion tart, live music and dancing.

October 10 is the last day of the Rostock Oktoberfest, which offers brass music, Oberkrainer sound and party hits in a large tent at the city harbour. The Usedom Music Festival also ends its three weeks of classical music, jazz and world music on this Saturday, with Sweden as the 2026 guest country and the clarinettist Martin Fröst as artist in residence.

Films between Neubrandenburg and the Darß

The dokumentART shows documentary, hybrid and experimental films from across Europe at the Kino Latücht until Sunday, in its 32nd edition. A new section called »Bridging Europe« pairs short and feature films from Germany, Poland and France in thematic dialogues. The Latücht Prize of the state ministry carries 5,000 euros.

On the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, the Darß Nature Film Festival also runs until Sunday. Twelve nominated films compete for the German Nature Film Prize, decided jointly by a jury and the audience. Screenings take place in Wieck, Prerow, Born, Zingst, Ahrenshoop and the Ozeaneum in Stralsund, and in the evening the 360° cinema ship projects films directly onto the Bodden.

Tickets for single screenings and festival passes for the dokumentART are available through the Kino Latücht.
