After a two-year break, the big city festival returns to Schwerin's Old Town – reimagined and under a new name: the Altstadtfete. The state capital combines the successful formats of Altstadtfest, Stadtfete, and the atmospheric Lichterbummel into one weekend. Between Pfaffenteich, Markt, and Schlachtermarkt, four experience zones will be created with music, a DJ floor, amusement rides, hands-on activities, and culinary delights. Light installations and illuminated facades will connect the squares and guide visitors through the nocturnal Old Town – a festival for all generations in autumn.

From October 9 to 11, 2026, the Altstadtfete Schwerin celebrates its premiere. The new city festival combines the formats Altstadtfest, Stadtfete, and Lichterbummel into one weekend. Four experience zones between Pfaffenteich, Markt, and Schlachtermarkt offer music, a DJ floor, amusement rides, hands-on activities, and culinary delights. Highlights: Silent Disco in the Old Town alleys and fireworks over the Pfaffenteich on Friday evening.

Premiere of the New Format

The Altstadtfete 2026 is the first edition of the new city festival of the state capital Schwerin. After a two-year hiatus of the former Altstadtfest, the city is reviving the format – organized by itself and with a changed concept. For three days, the festival will span four areas of the historic Old Town.

The Four Areas

At Schlachtermarkt, hands-on activities, family offerings, and a circus program take center stage. The market square becomes a meeting point for music, dance, and culinary delights. On the south bank of Pfaffenteich, the DJ floor and lounge areas create evening ambiance, while the north bank features amusement rides with classic Volksfest atmosphere.

Getting There

By train to Schwerin Hbf, from there the Old Town is within walking distance. By car via the A14 or A24. The festival areas are located around Pfaffenteich, Markt, and Schlachtermarkt.

The new name “Altstadtfete” signifies a changed concept: the proven event formats Altstadtfest, Stadtfete, and the atmospheric Lichterbummel merge into a single weekend.

Four Experience Zones

The festival is spread across four areas of the Old Town. At Schlachtermarkt, hands-on activities and offerings for families take center stage, along with a circus program for children. The market square becomes a meeting point for music, dance, and culinary discoveries. On the south bank of Pfaffenteich, DJs, a dance floor, and lounge areas provide special evenings, while the north bank offers classic Volksfest (traditional folk festival) atmosphere with amusement rides.

Light Over the Pfaffenteich

A hallmark of the Altstadtfete is its light staging. Light installations and illuminated facades connect the individual squares, guiding visitors on an atmospheric tour through the nocturnal Old Town. Highlights include a Silent Disco in the Old Town alleys and a fireworks display over the Pfaffenteich on Friday evening. The Pfaffenteich, the artificial lake in the heart of Schwerin, thus becomes the festival's luminous stage.
