Spring weekend of the state capital with programme in the Old Town and the Mueß Open-Air Museum
The FrühjahrsErwachen is the spring festival of the state capital Schwerin — a weekend that celebrates the transition from winter to the warm season. Unlike a single city festival, it is deliberately designed in two parts: Saturday takes place in the historic Old Town, and Sunday in the Open-Air Museum for Folklore on the southern shore of Lake Schwerin. Thus, the festival combines an urban cultural programme with rural museum tradition.
The first day of the festival focuses on the market square and the Schleswig-Holstein-Haus Cultural Forum. The opening at 11 a.m. will be presented by the cultural officer Silvio Horn and the formation Republica Cangrejo with a musical journey through South America and the Caribbean. In the afternoon, circus theatre with jugglers and acrobats, jazz and swing — from groups like Jazz-Kombüse and The Sinners — as well as hands-on activities will bring life to the Old Town. At 2:30 p.m., 'Schwerin singt!' invites you to a joint spring sing-along, accompanied by the Theodor-Körner-Chor. Beekeeping workshops and gardening activities complement the programme.
On Sunday, the FrühjahrsErwachen moves to the Schwerin-Mueß Open-Air Museum. The folklore museum showcases historical houses from all over Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on a spacious site. For the FrühjahrsErwachen, it opens its season with a spring market of regional producers, a family day with craft activities, theatre performances, museum tours, and a wild herb walk. A concert with Irish music concludes the day.
With the FrühjahrsErwachen, Schwerin, the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, sets a highlight in the spring calendar. The festival is aimed at families — admission in the Old Town is free, while the regular museum admission fee applies on Sunday at the Open-Air Museum. With its two-part concept, the weekend leads visitors from the city centre to the lake and turns the start of spring into a tour through two sides of the state capital.

Those who want to experience both days can combine the Old Town day with the museum day — the transition from the city centre to the lake shows two faces of Schwerin.
