Autumn light festival and culture night in the Old Town
As the days grow shorter, the Light Stroll transforms Schwerin's historic Old Town into a luminous stage. For several evenings in mid-October, facades, narrow alleys, and squares shine in colourful light. The walk through the centre of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's state capital is accompanied by musicians who create a great atmosphere at various stops.
A light show awaits visitors in the market square, while the Schlachtermarkt becomes a play paradise for children. The highlight of the Light Stroll is the pyro-musical: a fireworks display precisely choreographed to music, setting the autumn evening sky over Schwerin ablaze.
A few days after the Light Stroll, Schwerin's Culture Night follows. With a single ticket, the doors of museums, galleries, artists' studios, and stages throughout the city open. The programme ranges from concerts and readings to dance performances and exhibitions – a journey through the city's cultural diversity in a single evening.
The Light Stroll and Culture Night together mark the start of Schwerin's Autumn of Culture. The event is a firm fixture in the state capital's annual calendar, attracting numerous guests from Schwerin and the surrounding area to the festively illuminated city centre. It combines the folk festival character of the Light Stroll with the sophisticated cultural programme of the Culture Night.
