Schwerin Christmas Market — The Star in the North

A Christmas Market Throughout the Entire Old Town

The Schwerin Christmas Market is named »Der Stern im Norden« (The Star in the North) and is one of the largest Advent markets in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Unlike many markets, it is not concentrated in a single square but spreads across several quarters of the old town: Marktplatz, Schlachtermarkt, the south bank of the Pfaffenteich, Mecklenburgstraße, Schloßstraße, and Marienplatz together form an extensive festive area in the center of the state capital.

Ice Rink, Carousel, and Petting Zoo

The market offers numerous attractions for families: an ice rink and a toboggan run, a carousel, a petting zoo, and life-size nativity scene displays. A musical group of oversized plush bears delights children. The ice rink even remains open beyond the market's closing date, until January 12th, 2027.

Crafts and Fairy Tale Tent

Craftspeople showcase their skills at the Christmas market: glassblowers, blacksmiths, and potters demonstrate traditional techniques. From November 24th to December 23rd, a fairy tale tent with puppet theatre at the Schlachtermarkt invites visitors to linger – a special offering for the youngest visitors.

Opening Hours and Atmosphere

The market is open Monday to Thursday from 11 AM to 8 PM, and Fridays and Saturdays until 9 PM. It is closed on the public holidays of December 24th, 25th, and 31st. With its location between the historic old town and the castle, the Schwerin Christmas Market combines pre-Christmas cheer with the special backdrop of the World Heritage city.
