Over 50 cultural venues, 100+ exhibitions and performances in Berlin-Lichtenberg
The Lange Nacht der Bilder Lichtenberg is the annual art and culture night of the Lichtenberg district. For over two decades, on a Friday in early September, it has transformed the entire district into an open cultural landscape: over 50 venues open their doors, with more than 100 program items spread across all neighborhoods from Karlshorst and Friedrichsfelde to Lichtenberg-Mitte and Fennpfuhl, and on to Hohenschönhausen and Wartenberg.
Participating venues include studios (often not publicly accessible otherwise), galleries such as Galerie 100, Studio im Hochhaus, or the Kulturhaus Karlshorst, club rooms, schools with exhibition spaces, and cultural centers like the Mies van der Rohe House. Many locations also feature concerts, performances, readings, and guided tours.
The Lange Nacht is open from 6 PM to midnight. The participating venues are spread across the entire district; it's worth carefully reading the program flyer – the distances are significant. The district office recommends either focusing on a specific neighborhood (e.g., Karlshorst or Hohenschönhausen) or arriving by bike.
The organizers are the Lichtenberg District Office, Department of Art and Culture (Contact: Wiebke Volkmann), and Kulturring Berlin e.V.. The Lange Nacht aims to bridge the gap between an often underestimated local art scene and the general public. Free admission – a format that makes the Lichtenberg district visible in its diversity.
The 2026 edition of the Lange Nacht der Bilder Lichtenberg takes place on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 6 PM to midnight. The date follows the established rhythm of the “first Friday in September” – the hallmark of the event for years. Free admission at all participating venues.
Over 50 cultural venues throughout the Lichtenberg district open their doors – including studios in Karlshorst, Friedrichsfelde, Hohenschönhausen, and Fennpfuhl, galleries like Kulturhaus Karlshorst and Studio im Hochhaus, cultural centers, club rooms, and schools with exhibition spaces.
More than 100 program items are spread across the entire Lichtenberg district. The full program will be published in spring 2026 on langenachtderbilder.de and on kultur-in-lichtenberg.de.
Registration for participation in 2026 is accepted by Wiebke Volkmann (District) at [email protected] and Kulturring Berlin at [email protected] or 030/551 55 848.
Free admission at all participating venues.
S-Bahn lines S5, S7, S75 to Berlin Lichtenberg or Karlshorst. U-Bahn line U5 to Lichtenberg, Frankfurter Allee, or Tierpark. Trams M5, M6, M8, M13, M17, 21, 27 connect the Lichtenberg neighborhoods. Especially recommended by bike – the distances between venues are considerable.
Free at all participating venues.
Download the program flyer in advance and choose a geographical focus (e.g., all of Karlshorst, all of Hohenschönhausen). Three to five venues in one evening is realistic. Wear comfortable shoes, as some studios are located in courtyards or industrial buildings.
