The first and only festival for Vietnamese-German pop culture at the Dong Xuan Center
The festival Sống ở Berlin takes over the entire area of the Dong Xuan Center in the Lichtenberg district. For a weekend, you'll experience open-air concerts, gala shows with dinner, film programs, readings, and discussions about the history of Vietnamese contract workers in the GDR and growing up as a second and third generation in Germany.
The Dong Xuan Center on Herzbergstraße is far more than a wholesale market – it's a piece of Vietnam in Berlin. Between market stalls, small food stands, and hairdressers, an open-air stage opens up for the festival days, complemented by the DX Venue, a covered event hall. Guided tours of the area explain the history of the center and its community.
Acts like Saigon Soul Revival, Nashi44, Another Nguyen, veenus*, KUOKO, and Kakao Katzê will perform on the main stage, alongside comedy programs featuring Mai My and discussions in the Tracks & Talk format in cooperation with tip Magazin. An exhibition is dedicated to the history of Vietnamese contract workers in East Germany.
The restaurants and snack bars of the Dong Xuan Center remain open during the festival – you can eat Phở, Bún chả, Bánh mì, and Gỏi cuốn right on site. Sống ở Berlin sees itself as a meeting point for the Vietnamese-German diaspora and a festival for everyone who wants to get to know this often-overlooked culture in Berlin.
Behind the festival is the Berlin-based Büro doering, which, with funding from the Hauptstadtkulturfonds, the Musicboard Berlin, and the Bezirkskulturfonds Lichtenberg, curates a program that brings together identity, migration, and pop culture. Sống ở Berlin is one of the capital's youngest festival formats – and one of the most important when it comes to the visibility of the Vietnamese community in Germany.
For 2026, Büro doering is planning a third edition of Sống ở Berlin in July. The exact date and the full lineup will traditionally be published in late spring 2026 on the festival website and social media channels. The venue remains the Dong Xuan Center at Herzbergstraße 128–139 in Berlin-Lichtenberg, featuring an open-air stage, the DX Venue, and the food mile around the market stalls.
The complete program for 2026 has not yet been released. It is known that Sống ở Berlin will continue the following formats in 2026:
The lineup will be announced on buero-doering.de.
Specific ticket prices for the 2026 edition will be announced with the program. In previous years, day tickets for the open-air stage and individual passes for the gala shows were available, while market visits and the food area remained free. Children under 6 have free admission.
Take tram M8 to Herzbergstraße/Industriegebiet or bus 256. It's about a 10-minute tram ride from Lichtenberg S-Bahn station. There are parking spaces available at the Dong Xuan Center, but they are limited on festival days – travel by public transport is recommended.
Tickets are required for the stage and gala show programs (children under 6 free). Market visits and the food area are freely accessible. You can find current ticket information on the festival website.
The official festival bag is limited to A4 size; personal water bottles up to 0.5 l are allowed. Dogs are not permitted on the festival grounds. If you want to experience the full spectrum, plan for a long weekend – the center with its markets invites you to stroll far beyond the stage times.
