The official art fair of the Berlin Art Week – 13th edition in Hangars 5 and 6 of Tempelhof Airport, September 10–13, 2026
POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair was founded in 2014 and is the official art fair of the Berlin Art Week, which annually attracts around 140,000 visitors to the capital in mid-September. While the Berlin Art Week presents special exhibitions in the Neue Nationalgalerie, Hamburger Bahnhof, Gropius Bau, and numerous galleries throughout the city, POSITIONS forms the commercial heart: a platform where galleries sell contemporary art directly.
For years, POSITIONS has taken place in Hangars 5 and 6 of the decommissioned Tempelhof Airport. The historic industrial halls with 16-meter-high ceilings, wide sightlines, and ample daylight function surprisingly well as exhibition spaces: large formats have room, lighting conditions benefit the works, and the architecture creates a clear counterpoint to classic gallery spaces.
Across over 10,000 square meters of exhibition space, around 90–100 international galleries present works by established and emerging artists – painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, installation, and new media. Only internationally active galleries can apply (application deadline for 2026: May 18, 2026, via [email protected]). A curatorial committee makes the selection.
A dense supporting program runs alongside the fair: special exhibitions of curated sections, award ceremonies, artist talks, panel discussions, and the Berlin Art Week Collectors Dinner for collectors and gallerists. Guided tours through the hangars are recommended for first-time visitors.
The 2026 edition marks the fair's 13th year. As in previous years, around 90 international galleries will occupy the two historic hangars of Tempelhof Airport with painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, installation, and new media. The application deadline for participating galleries was May 18, 2026; selection is made by a curatorial committee. The program is complemented by special exhibitions, award ceremonies, talks, and the Berlin Art Week Collectors Dinner.
The full gallery list and detailed talk program will be published in late summer 2026 on positions.de.
