Four days of wine, live atmosphere, and a kids' zone on Schlossplatz — July 9 to 12, 2026
Jülich is one of the most historic cities in the Düren district, an old Renaissance fortress city with an unusual city layout (Italian fortress system, mid-16th century planned by Alessandro Pasqualini). The landmarks are the Jülich Citadel — one of the best-preserved Renaissance citadels in Central Europe — as well as the famous Brückenkopf-Park on the western edge of the city. With the research institution Forschungszentrum Jülich, the city is also one of the most important European science locations.
The wine festival takes place on Schlossplatz in the heart of the city center — a historic square with a view of the citadel, within walking distance of the Marktplatz and the Rathaus. Wooden stalls of the winemakers, standing tables, a stage area, and special lighting turn the square into one of the liveliest venues in the region's summer calendar over four days.
The wine festival runs from Thursday to Sunday:
The focus is on winemakers from Rheinland-Pfalz — the region's nearby wine homeland — with Riesling and Müller-Thurgau from the Mosel, Rheingau, Pfalz, and the Ahrtal, plus Spätburgunder and Dornfelder as red wines. Complementing these are wineries from Baden, Württemberg, the Saale-Unstrut region, and occasionally international wineries. Tasting glasses (0.1 l) and full glasses are served at various prices per stand.
Regional street food stalls offer wine-friendly food: cheese platters, lard bread, quiches, tarte flambée, Italian and French specialties, plus sweets like crêpes and ice cream. A dedicated kids' zone (sponsored by Stadtwerke Jülich) with play activities allows families to enjoy wine. In the evening, a light installation bathes Schlossplatz in an atmospheric mood — an important component of the festival character.
The wine festival is organized by Brückenkopf-Park Jülich GmbH in cooperation with the City of Jülich. The official opening is traditionally performed by Mayor Axel Fuchs with the tapping of the keg on Thursday evening — a short ceremony that embeds the wine festival in the city's calendar.
Anyone visiting Jülich should also experience the Jülich Citadel (City History Museum), the Brückenkopf-Park (with a zoo and a large family area), and the city center with its Renaissance layout. Jülich is conveniently located between Aachen (35 km), Cologne (50 km), and Düren (15 km) — the ideal day trip.
The 2026 edition continues the proven four-day format. The light installation on the historic Schlossplatz once again shapes the evening atmosphere, and the kids' zone makes the festival family-friendly.
