The Jülich Citadel — A Unique Backdrop
The Jülich Citadel is one of the best-preserved Renaissance fortresses in Europe. It was built starting in 1547 by the Italian fortress architect Alessandro Pasqualini for Duke Wilhelm V of Jülich-Cleves-Berg and served as a model for numerous European fortifications. With its five bastions, the castle within, and the extensive park grounds, it shapes Jülich's cityscape to this day. Schlossplatz in front of the Citadel is the city's most important public space and an ideal location for the Christmas market.
Werbegemeinschaft Jülich e.V. — The Organizer

Jülich — The Renaissance City in the Rhineland
The city of Jülich, with around 33,000 inhabitants, is located in the Düren district on the western edge of the Rhineland, about 30 kilometers west of Cologne. It is famous for the Renaissance Citadel, the Jülich Research Center (one of Europe's largest interdisciplinary research centers), and its rich medieval and early modern history. The Christmas market is one of the most important city events, attracting visitors annually from the Aachen and Cologne regions.
