Grand Autumn Festival with Pumpkin Carving and Sunday Shopping
When the first leaves fall and the shop windows of Königstraße are decorated in orange, it's time for the Duisburg Pumpkin Festival — Autumn Festival. On October 25, 2026, the Duisburg city center along Königstraße will transform into an autumn festival mile with pumpkins, traditional harvest elements, and a stage program. The festival has been one of the highlights of the Duisburg event calendar in autumn for years.
The Pumpkin Festival focuses on classic German autumn tradition, complemented by modern family elements:
Sunday, October 25, 2026, is a Sunday shopping day in Duisburg city center. The shops on Königstraße, Beekstraße, and Forum Duisburg will be open — making the Pumpkin Festival not only a family event but also the most important autumn sales day for the city center retail trade. Confirmed by Duisburg Kontor and the city marketing platform verkaufsoffener-sonntag.nrw.
The CityPalais at Königsforum is the shopping and event center of Duisburg city center. The stage in front of the CityPalais is the musical center during the Pumpkin Festival — live sets, children's activities, and harvest program items are broadcast from here. The acoustics are open, and the location is central.
The festival is organized by Duisburg Kontor, the municipal event company responsible for other major events such as the Duisburger Akzente, the Adventszauber series, and the City Festival. The Pumpkin Festival is part of the standard annual program and is, based on experience, one of the most well-attended dates.
The Duisburg city center, with its elongated Königstraße as a pedestrian zone, faces the typical challenge of medium-sized Ruhr area city centers: revitalization against online retail, profile against larger neighbors (Essen, Düsseldorf). A strong event series (Pumpkin Festival, Akzente, Adventszauber) is part of the answer — and the Pumpkin Festival is one of its most stable formats.
