Four Days of Fire Brigade History at Wasserschloss
Founded in 1876, the Schambach Volunteer Fire Brigade is one of the oldest fire brigades in the Gäuboden region. To mark its 150th anniversary, it is hosting a multi-day founding festival in 2026 on the grounds of Wasserschloss Schambach — one of the most atmospheric festival settings in Lower Bavaria.
Wasserschloss Schambach
Wasserschloss Schambach is a late medieval complex with a surrounding moat, nestled in the Gäuboden landscape between the Danube and the Vorderer Bayerischer Wald. It forms the natural stage for the festival weekend — historically fitting for a club anniversary rooted in the 19th century.
Highlights of the Festival Week
- Thursday, May 14th (Ascension Day) — Gäuboden Oldtimer Meeting from 9 AM with pre-war models, racing cars, luxury cars, post-war miracle cars, as well as historic tractors and motorcycles (minimum age 30 years)
- Saturday, May 16th, 2:00 PM — 5:00 PM — Folk Music Afternoon for seniors with Gstanzl singer Hubert Stettmeier
- Sunday, May 17th — Flag Consecration of the historic club flag from 1876 at Wasserschloss
- Large festival tent with catering, Bavarian live music, and dance evenings
- Festival procession with neighboring fire brigades from the Straubing-Bogen district
Gäuboden — Land of Grain, Beer, and Festivals
The Gäuboden, located between Straubing and Plattling, is one of Bavaria's most fertile agricultural landscapes. Straßkirchen, with its districts including Schambach, belongs to the Straubing-Bogen district in the state of Bavaria. The Gäubodenfest in Straubing (held annually in August) is one of Lower Bavaria's largest Volksfeste (popular festivals); many smaller brigades and clubs host their own anniversaries within this rich festival culture.
FFW Schambach 150 Years — edition 2026
The dates for 2026 have been officially confirmed by the Straubing-Bogen District Fire Brigade Association and the municipality of Straßkirchen. The festival weekend begins on Ascension Day (May 14th) with the traditional Gäuboden Oldtimer Meeting, organized by the interest group "Nostalgiefahrzeuge Straubing/Straßkirchen" and the "Historische Fahrzeuge" regulars' table. Pre-war models, racing cars from various eras, luxury cars, post-war miracle cars, as well as historic tractors and motorcycles are expected.
On Saturday, May 16th, from 2 PM to 5 PM, a Folk Music Afternoon for Seniors with Gstanzl singer Hubert Stettmeier is scheduled. The highlight follows on Sunday, May 17th, with the consecration of the historic 1876 club flag at Wasserschloss. The festival week will be accompanied by a large festival tent with catering, live music, and dance evenings.

Getting There
Via the A 3 motorway (Straubing exit, approx. 12 km) and state road 2125. Arrive by train at Straubing main station, then continue by bus or taxi. Parking spaces around Wasserschloss will be signposted.
