About Bogen Rhombus Days

The Bogen Rhombus Days transform the Bavaria-Bohemia Europe Park into a living medieval camp every two years. Over 40 merchants and craftspeople, as well as around 36 historical camp groups, bring the life of the 12th and 13th centuries back to life. The historical background is the marriage of Countess Ludmilla of Bogen to Duke Ludwig I of Bavaria from the House of Wittelsbach in 1204 – the union from which the rhombuses of the Bavarian state coat of arms originated. Show fights, jugglers, archery tournaments, fire shows, and medieval market stalls make the spectacle an experience for the whole family. Admission is free.

A Festival Celebrating the Cradle of the Bavarian Coat of Arms

Bogen in Lower Bavaria, in the district of Straubing-Bogen, sees itself as the birthplace of the Bavarian rhombuses. According to tradition, the marriage of Countess Ludmilla of Bogen to Duke Ludwig I of Bavaria from the House of Wittelsbach in 1204 laid the foundation for the white-and-blue rhombus pattern that still adorns the Bavarian state coat of arms today. The Bogen Rhombus Days, a medieval spectacle held in the Bavaria-Bohemia Europe Park at the foot of the Bogenberg hill, commemorate this union.

Medieval Life You Can Touch

Over 40 merchants and craftspeople offer their wares, while around 36 historical camp groups set up their tents, demonstrating how people lived, cooked, and worked in the High Middle Ages. Blacksmiths, tanners, and potters showcase their skills, while jugglers, musicians, and dance groups provide entertainment.

Program for All Ages

  • Show fights and sword fighting tournaments
  • Archery and crossbow shooting, also for children
  • Fire shows in the evenings
  • Children's carousel, face painting, and hands-on activities
  • Carriage rides and medieval music

Tradition in the Bavarian Forest

The spectacle takes place every two years and attracts visitors from all over Lower Bavaria and neighboring Bohemia. It combines regional identity with tangible history and is a firm fixture in Bogen's event calendar.
