About Sportplatzkerwa
Sportplatzkerwa — edition 2026
As every year, SC Altenplos sets up its club festival on the club's own sports grounds on the outskirts of Altenplos. The marquee is large enough for several hundred guests; weather permitting, service is also available outdoors.
On Friday, the house specialty is served: Krenfleisch – pork with freshly grated horseradish. On Saturday and Sunday, other Franconian classics are on the menu: Schäufele, bratwurst, and dumplings. Live bands from the region play on all evenings.

A Fair on the Sports Ground
While most Kerwa (fair) festivals in the Franconian Switzerland take place around the church and inn, SC Altenplos 1921 e.V. has created its own festival site: the club's own sports grounds on the outskirts of Altenplos. For decades, the sports club has hosted its Sportplatzkerwa here – a four-day summer festival that attracts more guests than most classic Kerwa festivals in the region.
Krenfleisch, Beer, and Dancing
The hallmark of the Sportplatzkerwa is Krenfleisch: pork with freshly grated horseradish, a Franconian specialty served with such quality only at a few festivals. Add to this Franconian draft beer, Schäufele (pork shoulder), bratwurst, and Franconian dumplings. In the evenings, a live band takes over the program, and the marquee festivities continue into the night. SC Altenplos manages the entire festival on a voluntary basis.
Altenplos and Heinersreuth
Altenplos is a district of the municipality of Heinersreuth in the Bayreuth district, just 6 km west of the city of Bayreuth. With just over 1,000 inhabitants, Altenplos is small, but the Sportplatzkerwa regularly attracts guests from the entire district and even from neighboring Upper Franconia. The humorous local reference to the Sportplatzkerwa as "Celebrating in Arschlochhausen" (a play on words implying a remote or unpleasant place) is legendary – the residents take it with pride.
Sport, Club, and Village Tradition
SC Altenplos 1921, founded over 100 years ago, is now a classic all-round club with football, club championships, and an active club life. The Sportplatzkerwa and the Dorfparkfest in August are the club's most important sources of income for maintaining the sports grounds and for youth work.
