A Franconian Kerwa on the outskirts of Bayreuth
Mistelbach is located in the district of Bayreuth in Upper Franconia, just about three kilometers from the city limits of Bayreuth. With about 1,500 inhabitants, Mistelbach is a classic club village — and TSV Mistelbach 1909 shapes social life with its football activities, sports festivals, and the annual Kerwa (Kirchweih).
What makes the Misslwoocha Kerwa special
- Club-based instead of parish-based: The Misslwoocha Kerwa is organized by TSV Mistelbach — it's a Kirchweih and sports festival in one, with a festival tent directly at the sports grounds.
- Franconian dialect: The name 'Misslwoocha' is the dialect word for the inhabitants of Mistelbach — and it sets the tone: the event thrives on its regional character.
- Festival tent and live music: Classic Franconian festival culture — festival tent, beer tapping ceremony, brass music, cover bands, local snacks.
- Duration: Three days of events from Thursday to Saturday (in some years, extended to four days).
- Family time: A children's carousel and children's program are part of the festivities — the Kerwa is aimed at all generations of the village and surrounding communities.
Federal State and cultural context
Bavaria, administrative region Upper Franconia, district of Bayreuth. In Franconian usage, 'Kerwa' is what is called 'Kirchweih' in other parts of Bavaria — and in many villages in Upper Franconia, it is the most important festival of the year. The Misslwoocha Kerwa falls within the late summer Kerwa circuit around Bayreuth, which moves from village to village.
