Eight Hours of Brass Music in the Lausitz
When the first band opens the day at 11 AM on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the Spremberg open-air stage, a festival day straight out of the good old brass music tradition begins: For eight hours, regional brass bands will follow one another, from the morning pint through the lunchtime concerts to the late afternoon. The organizer is the Spremberg Tourist Information, admission is free — a gift to the city and the entire Oberspreewald-Lausitz region, which has put together a dense festival program for the 725th anniversary of the mining town in 2026.
The Open-Air Stage — New, Large, Acoustic
The open-air stage in Wiesengasse has undergone extensive modernization in recent years. With 3,500 seats, it is one of the largest open-air venues in the Lausitz. The natural slope of the terrain creates very good acoustics, which are particularly beneficial for brass bands — the sound of tubas, trumpets, and clarinets carries far without excessive amplification being necessary. Anyone who wants to experience brass music live will find the ideal setting here.
Program and Lineup
Eight hours mean space for several bands — typically, the Spremberg Blasmusikfest alternates between polka-oriented folk music bands, several classical brass orchestras, and a modern brass music ensemble. The lineup with the exact band names will be published by the Tourist Information in the spring of 2026. Experience shows that bands from Spremberg itself, from southern Cottbus, from the Polish border area, and from Saxony are on stage. Seating is plentiful, and food and drinks are offered continuously throughout the day — from the classic bratwurst stand to the regional brewery.
Spremberg in the Spree-Neiße District
Spremberg, the "Pearl of the Lausitz," is located in the Spree-Neiße district directly on the Spreewaldring, nestled between post-mining landscapes and the Spremberg dam. With just under 22,000 inhabitants, the town is one of the cultural constants of the Niederlausitz mining region — and in 2026, it celebrates its 725th town anniversary. The Blasmusikfest is one of the fixed program points of this anniversary year and at the same time picks up on a deeply rooted regional tradition: brass music has been a part of festival and club life in the Lausitz for generations.
Tips for the Festival Day
Anyone visiting the Blasmusikfest should plan for a relaxed Sunday — picnic blanket, sun hat, perhaps a folding chair for a special seating height. Dogs are generally allowed but should have water in the shade. Arrival by car via the A 15 (Cottbus–Forst) is uncomplicated; parking is available near the stage.
