Four days of a jubilee Volksfest for the 725th anniversary of the Lower Lusatian town of Spremberg
Spremberg is located in the southernmost tip of Brandenburg on the Spree river, in the district of Spree-Neiße. With around 22,000 inhabitants, it is one of the larger towns in Lower Lusatia and is culturally anchored between German and Sorbian traditions. The town was first documented in 1301 — and in 2026, it celebrates its 725th city anniversary.
This is the occasion for a special Heimatfest: From August 7th to 10th, 2026, the entire city center will become a festival ground. Even in normal years, the Spremberger Heimatfest is one of the largest Volksfeste in southern Brandenburg — in 2026, it will be amplified for its jubilee edition.
What distinguishes the Spremberger Heimatfest from smaller city festivals is its spatial extent: Eight stages are spread across the city center, so the festival is not too concentrated. You'll wander between the venues:
Over 30,000 visitors are expected over the four days — a scale that places Spremberg at the center of Lusatian festival culture. The allocation of pitches for showmen, food vendors, and market stalls started last year, underscoring the festival's importance for regional businesses.
Spremberg is located in the traditional Sorbian settlement area, and this is reflected in the festival program: Sorbian costume groups, bilingual signage, and program items on Sorbian-Wendish culture are an integral part of the Heimatfest. 725 years of Spremberg are 725 years of German-Sorbian city history.
The 725th Spremberger Heimatfest runs from Friday, August 7th to Monday, August 10th, 2026 — a jubilee edition to commemorate the town's first mention 725 years ago (1301).
Eight stages will be spread throughout the entire Spremberg city center: Bullwinkel, Market Square, Castle Area, the large festival meadow, and four other venues. Highlights include the laser show with fireworks at the Schwanenteich and the historical parade with schools, clubs, and Sorbian costume groups.
The allocation of pitches for showmen, food vendors, and market stalls is underway. Over 30,000 visitors are expected from all over Lusatia. Free admission.
