Three days of Stahlstadtfest in the heart of the first socialist planned city of the GDR
The Stadtfest Eisenhüttenstadt is the largest folk festival (Volksfest) of the East Brandenburg steel city – one of the first socialist planned cities of the GDR (founded in 1950 as "Stalinstadt", since 1961 Eisenhüttenstadt). For three days, the city celebrates around Lindenallee and Beeskower Straße amidst the residential complex architecture of the 1950s, which today forms the largest contiguous monument area in Germany. In 2026, the festival will run from August 25th to 27th under the motto "Hütte feiert" (The Hut Celebrates).
The program is spread across two main venues:
The steel plant ArcelorMittal, located in Eisenhüttenstadt, is the main sponsor and operates the "Steel Hut" during the festival. Here, you can virtually explore the plant at an interactive table, try blacksmithing and welding activities, and register for the free factory tours, which start every two hours on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. The tour shows the blast furnace, the hot strip mills, and the slab line – a unique glimpse into the industrial heart of the city.
The food mile reflects the geographical proximity to the Czech border (about 50 km away). In addition to Bratwurst, Rostbrätl, and burgers, you'll find Czech specialties such as Trdelník, garlic soup, and grilled farmer's sausage. Beer is served from both regional breweries and Czech classics (Staropramen, Krušovice).
With around 23,000 inhabitants, Eisenhüttenstadt is now a central town in the Oder-Spree district and home to the largest flat steel plant in Eastern Germany. The historic residential complex architecture (Wohnkomplexe I–V) was registered as a protected monument ensemble in 2017. With the Stadtfest, the steel city confidently presents itself as a vibrant industrial location with a distinct identity.
The Stadtfest Eisenhüttenstadt 2026 will take place from August 25th to 27th, 2026, under the motto "Hütte feiert" (The Hut Celebrates). The organizer is the city of Eisenhüttenstadt, with the local steel plant ArcelorMittal as the main sponsor.
The festival kicks off on Friday, August 25th, with the traditional beer tapping ceremony at the HütteTreff. On the main stage, regional bands and winners of the AXEL® music award will perform, including Treibholz and ClockClock. On Saturday, August 26th, the "Gala of the Region" will open with local dance ensembles and choirs, before Patricia Kelly & Band crowns the day in the evening with her solo program. Sunday, August 27th, is family day: Pittiplatsch and Friends will entertain the children's stage, and a Depeche Mode tribute band will conclude the festival weekend.
