Three-day city festival of the steel city in the Oder-Spree district
Eisenhüttenstadt is Germany's youngest city – founded in 1950, originally as "Stalinstadt," later renamed. It owes its existence to the Eisenhüttenkombinat Ost (EKO), one of the largest steelworks in the GDR. Today, in reunified Germany and amidst structural change, the city in the Oder-Spree district is seeking its new identity. The motto "Hütte hat was!" of the city festival is programmatic: not a denial of industrial history, but a confident appropriation.
From August 26th to 28th, 2026, the city festival will take place in the city center. The weekend kicks off on Friday evening with the traditional keg tapping ceremony at HütteTreff – a central venue in the city. The musical program runs on several stages: ClockClock with pop, the 80s revival with Geier Sturzflug, UKW, and Ryan Paris, plus regional bands and a gala evening with the city's clubs (dance groups, choirs, music groups).
The festival mile through the city center brings together restaurateurs from Eisenhüttenstadt and the region. A special feature: specialties from the Czech Republic have a permanent place – Eisenhüttenstadt is only 100 km from the Czech border triangle. Dumplings, goulash, and pivo beer share tables with Brandenburg bratwurst and Silesian sausage.
A large amusement park with rides, carousels, and candy stalls complements the program. The Children's Area offers play activities, bouncy castles, craft workshops, and interactive theater – the city festival explicitly sees itself as a family festival.
Eisenhüttenstadt is located on the Oder-Spree Canal, which connects the Oder and the Spree. In the state of Brandenburg, the city is one of the industrial centers – the EKO steelworks (now ArcelorMittal) remains the most important employer. The city festival brings this identity to the stage once a year – with a touch of self-irony and unmistakable pride in its own "Hütte" (steelworks).
The EisenhüttenStadtfest 2026 runs for three days, using the city center as the festival grounds. The kickoff is on Friday evening with the traditional keg tapping ceremony at HütteTreff. Over the three days, concerts, gastronomy, and the amusement park are spread out.
Musical highlights include: ClockClock (Pop), 80s revival with Geier Sturzflug, UKW, and Ryan Paris, plus a club gala featuring dance groups, choirs, and music groups from Eisenhüttenstadt.
