SSG Asterstein – Schützenfest

The Sportschützengilde 1962 e.V. Koblenz-Asterstein is a traditional shooting club in the right-bank Koblenz district. It is based at Fort Asterstein, a former 19th-century Prussian fortress, which is now partially accessible and used by the shooting club and other associations during the summer months.

Fortress as a Festival Site

Fort Asterstein is part of the extensive Koblenz fortress complex and is strategically located on a hill overlooking the city on the right bank of the Rhine. Today, the area houses the SSG's shooting ranges and a clubhouse that facilitates catering and festival tent operations. The historic setting makes the Schützenfest a special experience – club life, tradition, and fortress history merge.

Weekend Programme

The Schützenfest typically spans a weekend and follows the classic sequence of events: Assembly on Saturday morning, sporting competitions at the shooting range, the King's Shoot to determine the new shooting monarch, a festive proclamation, festival tent operation with catering, live music, and dancing. Sunday features a morning pint (Frühschoppen), further competitions for friendly clubs, and a relaxed conclusion.

Club Life with a Long History

Since its founding in 1962, the SSG Asterstein has promoted competitive shooting with air rifles, small-bore rifles, and pistols. Training sessions are held regularly; competitions at club, district, and state levels are part of the annual programme. The Schützenfest is also the club's largest social event and is open to the residents of the Asterstein district.

Asterstein is a district on the heights of Koblenz on the right bank of the Rhine, offering a magnificent view of the Rhine, the Deutsches Eck, and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
