Veddel — Hamburg's perhaps most diverse island
Veddel isn't large: around 4,800 residents live on the Elbe island between the Norderelbe and Süderelbe, directly south of the Speicherstadt. But it's one of Hamburg's most diverse areas, with families from over 90 nations, a committed neighborhood initiative, and an independent cultural scene. In the background: the historic Auswandererhalle Ballinstadt, from which millions of people emigrated to America between 1850 and 1934.
Neighborhood festival with an intercultural focus
Veddelfest brings Veddel's intercultural profile to the streets. It brings together residents, cultural creators, initiatives, and visitors from all over Hamburg. The event is organized by Veddelfest e.V. together with NEW HAMBURG (art and education initiative) and a broad alliance of Aurubis (local major company), schools, church communities, mosques, and neighborhood groups.
What you'll experience

In the Hamburg-Mitte district
The venue is the area Am Zollhafen / Katenweide, directly accessible from the S-Bahn station Veddel/Ballinstadt. Located in the Hamburg-Mitte district, Veddel, with its brick-style housing from the 1920s, proximity to Hafencity, and committed neighborhood initiatives, is one of the most exciting neighborhoods to discover in Hamburg beyond the classic tourist routes.
