International Festival for Independent Publishing
Indiecon, founded in 2014 by the Hamburg collective Die Brueder, is Europe's most important festival for independent publishing. For three days, the international scene of independent magazines, zines, self-publishers, riso print, newsletter, and podcast creators gathers in the repurposed industrial halls of Oberhafen (HafenCity). The marketplace features closely packed tables; creators personally sit at their stands, selling their magazines, books, and prints.
Alongside the marketplace, there is a public program of talks, panels, workshop discussions, and hands-on sessions – on topics such as publishing finance in the indie sector, AI tools in magazine production, social media strategies for print projects, or printing techniques like risography and letterpress. Additionally, there are book premieres, readings, and film screenings.
Indiecon annually awards Travel Grants to international creators who otherwise could not afford the trip. The application process for tables is also open – hundreds of projects apply each year, and a jury makes the selection. Admission to the festival is free.
In 2026, Indiecon returns to its familiar home in Hamburg's Oberhafen – the repurposed railway halls on Stockmeyerstraße. Three days of marketplace with hundreds of exhibitors from the international indie scene, supplemented by an extensive program of talks and workshops.
The 2026 Travel Grant recipients have already been selected – including creators from several continents who can finance their travel to Hamburg with Indiecon's travel cost stipend. The list will be published on the festival website in the summer.
The full program will be published in late summer 2026 on indiecon-festival.com. The format traditionally includes:
In previous years, featured exhibitors included The Happy Reader, The Gentlewoman, Apartamento, Migrant Journal, Mundial, and hundreds of smaller independent creators. Past speakers came from, among others, Eye Magazine, It’s Nice That, Anothermag, and many independent projects.
Subway lines U1 Steinstraße or U4 Überseequartier, about a 10–15 minute walk to Oberhafen. Also easily reachable on foot from the S-Bahn station Hammerbrook.
Free. Early-bird tickets are available only for selected conference slots or workshop places via the ticketing system.
Applications for tables and travel grants run annually. All information at indiecon-festival.com.
