Curated cultural bazaar in the historic Gleishalle of Oberhafen – Design, Streetfood, Arts & Crafts, and Live Music in Hamburg Harbour
Unlike a classic flea market or design market, Mamø sees itself as a curated cultural bazaar. The supporting association WeField e.V. focuses on combination: exhibitors from design, fashion, arts & crafts, and vintage are combined with streetfood, floristry, workshops, and a live stage. The concept has a clear mission – to activate the disused Gleishalle as a meeting space and create a place that adds a cultural dimension to the HafenCity district, which is still missing beyond the gastronomic hotspots.
The hall is part of the historic Oberhafen, an area in the Hamburg-Mitte district between HafenCity and Rothenburgsort. For decades, the Hamburg railway maintenance depot handled goods between rail and water here. Today, the area is home to artist studios, workshops, studios, and gastronomy. The Gleishalle itself is an open brick structure with a steel roof, through whose wide arched doorways daylight streams in abundance. The mix of raw industrial charm and curated market atmosphere gives Mamø its unique vibe.
What can you find at a typical Mamø weekend? Over 50 stalls offering design, jewellery, fashion, vintage, and upcycling. Floristry from regional workshops. Streetfood from pop-up restaurants by Hamburg's chefs. A bar serving Spritz, wine, and regional beer. Hands-on workshops for children and adults: candle making, soap making, children's painting, plant swap. DJ sets and live bands alternate on the central stage, and dance workshops (Salsa, Swing) invite participation.
Mamø originated in 2025 and is one of those new Hamburg cultural formats that no longer see the harbour hinterland merely as a tourist route, but as a living space with its own pulse. The association WeField e.V. explicitly positions it as a non-commercial urban space experiment – affordable entry, profits are reinvested into the next event.
The July 2026 edition is part of the regular monthly series but is traditionally one of the busiest weekends – summer, long daylight hours, open-air character due to the open gates. Over 50 exhibiting labels and workshops are expected, along with several streetfood stalls offering Hamburg cuisine.
The format follows the proven choreography: in the front part of the hall are the design and fashion stalls, in the middle the streetfood mile and bar, and at the back the workshop area and stage. Dance workshops (Salsa, Lindy Hop), children's painting, plant swap, and a small farmers' market with regional producers from the Vier- und Marschlande complement the offerings.
