Middle Franconian Kirchweih in the Neustadt a.d.Aisch-Bad Windsheim district
Gerhardshofen is located in the Aischgrund, a landscape known for its carp ponds, Franconian bratwurst culture, and strong Kirchweih tradition. The Kerwa Gerhardshofen is firmly listed in the official Kirchweihübersicht 2026 (Kirchweih overview 2026) of the Neustadt a.d.Aisch-Bad Windsheim district with the date August 21st to 24th.
As is common throughout the Franconian region, local clubs – the 'Burschen- und Mädelsverein' (young men's and women's association), marksmen, sports club, and fire brigade – organize the program in rotation. A classic schedule includes the festival opening with a beer tapping on Friday evening, a dance evening on Saturday, a festival service on Sunday with a subsequent 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint), along with Franconian games like 'Hahnenschlagen' (rooster-hitting) and 'Baumaustanzen' (tree-dancing). On Kerwa Monday, the 'Kerwaboschn' and 'Kerwamadla' parade through the village.
Franconian bratwurst, Schäuferla (pork shoulder), carp fillet from the Aischgrund, Bauernkrapfen (farmer's doughnuts), and draft beer – the Kerwa Gerhardshofen is also a culinary journey into Middle Franconian club life. The festival marquee with a live band provides the musical accompaniment, while the dance floor is open until well after midnight.
In the NEA district, one of the densest Kirchweih districts in Franconia, the Gerhardshofen Kerwa belongs to the late season – it almost concludes August and transitions into the autumn Kerwa phase. Those who engage in 'kerwa-hopping' in the region regularly combine it with neighboring Kerwas such as Uehlfeld, Höchstadt, or Bad Windsheim.
From August 21st to 24th, 2026, the festival marquee in Gerhardshofen will once again become the center of the Middle Franconian Kerwa season. The Kirchweih is traditionally organized by the local clubs, who share responsibilities such as serving, maintaining order in the marquee, organizing the procession, and managing the music program.
The program follows the typical pattern of a Middle Franconian Kerwa: Opening on Friday evening with a beer tapping, a dance evening on Saturday, a festival service on Sunday morning with a 'Frühschoppen', Franconian Kerwa games on Sunday afternoon, and the traditional parade of the 'Kerwa-Boschn' through the village on Kerwa Monday.
