A Franconian Kirchweih with a Long Tradition
In the idyllic Aischgrund, in the heart of the Middle Franconian carp region, Diespeck celebrates its main town Kirchweih year after year. The Kärwa, as Franconians affectionately call their Kirchweih, dates back to the annual patron saint's day of the parish church and is today a folk festival that has grown over generations, putting the market town of Diespeck into a festive mood in October.
The Ortsburschen as Keepers of Tradition
The Diespeck Ortsburschen organize the Kirchweih according to traditional models. The Kärwabaum is erected before the festival, and during the festival days, the lads, accompanied by their Kärwapaare (Kirchweih couples) in Franconian costume, ensure a lively atmosphere. Dances, sayings, and the joint tapping of the beer keg are part of the fixed repertoire.
Festival Tent, Brass Music, and Culinary Specialties
Various brass bands and dance bands provide entertainment in the festival tent, while bratwurst from the charcoal grill, Schäuferla (pork shoulder), carp from the Aischgrund, and Kärwakrapfen (Kirchweih doughnuts) spoil the guests. Amusement rides, shooting galleries, and carousels complete the offerings.
Diespeck and the Aischgrund
Diespeck is located in the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim in the administrative region of Middle Franconia, in the heart of a region known for its carp ponds, orchards, and Franconian traditional festivals. In addition to the main town Kirchweih, other Kirchweihen are celebrated in the districts – including Ober-/Untersachsen, Dettendorf, and Stübach.
A Meeting Place for the Entire Region
The Kirchweih Diespeck attracts visitors from the entire Middle Franconia region. Families, clubs, and out-of-towners use the festival to maintain old acquaintances and experience Franconian hospitality.
