Mid-Franconian Grand Kirchweih under old trees
The Neustädter Kirchweih, commonly known as "Neustädter Kerwa", is one of the most traditional and largest Kirchweihen in Middle Franconia. It dates back to the re-consecration of the Evangelical City Church of St. Johannis after the city fire in the Middle Ages – the 2025 edition was already the 469th (!) in the festival's history.
The festival site is "Bei den Sommerkellern", a traditional area with old trees on the edge of the city center. Every year, two festival tents, a Wirtsdorf with serving and dining pavilions, as well as rides, carousels, shooting galleries, and showmen are set up under the trees.
The festival grounds are open daily from 11:30 AM, Sundays from 11:00 AM, and on the opening day from 3:00 PM. This deliberately emphasizes daytime operation with a beer garden flair – the Neustädter Kerwa is not just an evening festival.
Neustadt an der Aisch is the district town of the Landkreis Neustadt a.d. Aisch-Bad Windsheim in Middle Franconia (Bavaria). The region is known for its carp pond farming in the Aischgrund, a distinct Franconian brewing tradition, and precisely this grand Kirchweih, which attracts tens of thousands of guests from the entire Aischgrund and the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region every year.
The Neustädter Kerwa 2026 is officially announced for Saturday, June 6th, to Sunday, June 14th, 2026. The festival grounds "Bei den Sommerkellern" will open on the opening day from 3:00 PM, on subsequent weekdays from 11:30 AM, and on Sundays from 11:00 AM.
As in previous years, a proven structure guides the program: On the Friday before the opening weekend, the Kerwafichte is erected; on Saturday, the beer tapping ceremony follows. Sunday is dedicated to the ecumenical festival service on the festival grounds, and on Monday, the marksmen parade through the city. The festival week includes live bands, a children's festival, a festival reception with grand fireworks, a boxing night, and the "Kerwa Rest Day".
Free admission to the festival grounds. Live concerts and individual events in the festival tent may be subject to a fee. Rides and showman attractions are charged according to the provider.
By train: Neustadt (Aisch) station (Würzburg–Nuremberg line), a few minutes' walk to the festival grounds. By car: A3 exit Neustadt a.d. Aisch / Bad Windsheim. Parking available around the Sommerkeller.
Free admission to the festival grounds. On concert evenings, admission fees may apply in the festival tent; rides and showman attractions are charged according to the provider.
