Parade of lights and fireworks at Hansa-Park

Herbstzauber am Meer is the last big event of the season at Hansa-Park. It starts on October 10, 2026 and runs until October 25. After dark, around 2,000 illuminated figures light up the themed areas, from the Dragon World to New Lübeck. The mood is cosy and romantic, less Halloween horror than a light show for families.

The light parade sets off around 7:30 pm, a silent, sparkling procession with more than a million lights on floats and costumes. Around 8:30 pm the evening show “Adrienne und der Regenbogen” follows on the Plaza del Mar, with acrobatics, dance and fireworks.

A boat ride, the Blumenmeer trip, passes through almost 1,000 light figures glowing to classical music. New Lübeck is given over to Thanksgiving, with pumpkins, corn and autumn decorations. On the terrace of the Weltumsegler restaurant, the food village runs from bratwurst to pasta, with mulled wine and punch.

Parade, show and fireworks only take place in dry weather.

The park is open from 11 am to 9 pm, the water rides close at 4 pm, and regular admission prices apply. Opened in 1977, Hansa-Park draws around 1.5 million visitors a year and is the only theme park in Germany right on the Baltic Sea.

From the town hall square to the Holsteinring

On the town hall square in Wedel, the Mittelalterliches Handelskontor opens on Saturday and Sunday, with traders, craftspeople and jugglers in historic dress, live music and staged sword fights, free of charge. Sunday is also a shopping Sunday in Wedel's town centre. At the speedway at the Holsteinring in Brokstedt, the final of the German U21 Championship takes place on Sunday, October 11, on a 387-metre sand track; adults pay 20 euros, children under 12 get in free.

At the fourth Long Night of Crime Fiction, five authors present their latest crime novels on Saturday, among them Heike Denzau and Sabine Weiß. Doors open at the Spectrum cinema in Norderstedt at 6 pm, the readings begin at 7 pm, and tickets cost 12 euros in advance and 15 euros at the door. In Niebüll, the exhibition series at the Richard Haizmann Museum takes up Jörg Bernkopf and “Der Fluss der Dinge” on October 10, on view until December 6.

The annual exhibition at the Nolde Museum Seebüll runs until October 31, daily from 10 am to 6 pm, under the title “Beziehungen zwischen Menschen, Natur und Kunst”. In the boat sheds at Baggersand, the Travemünde sand sculptures show 104 works made from more than 10,000 cubic metres of special sand under the motto “Zeitreise im Sand”, also daily from 10 am to 6 pm; adults pay 13.50 euros.

Harvest festivals in Dithmarschen

Dithmarschen is one of the historic farming regions of Schleswig-Holstein, with its Marsch lying between the Eider, the Elbe and the North Sea.

The Ernteball Windbergen begins on October 10 at 8 pm in the Landgasthof “Zur Linde” and joins dancing and company to the old farming tradition of giving thanks for the harvest. Many guests wear formal dress, and tables and tickets come directly from the inn.

At the Landgasthof “Zur Erholung”, the Erntedankfest Krumstedt decorates the hall with sheaves of grain, pumpkins, apples and bread. Regional dishes from Dithmarschen farms reach the table, such as cabbage rolls, braised roast and farmer's breakfast, with music alongside. Krumstedt lies in the south of Dithmarschen and has around 1,000 residents.

Entry to the hall in Krumstedt is free, and guests pay for food and drink on the spot.
