An Old Agricultural Tradition
For centuries, the Ernteball was an integral part of the village year in the North German marshlands: once the grain was harvested, the beets were cleared, and the fields were sown, the farming community would gather to celebrate the harvest. In Windbergen — a classic marsh village in Dithmarschen — this tradition is kept alive to this day.
At the Landgasthof Zur Linde
The venue is the traditional Landgasthof „Zur Linde“ at Lindenstraße 4 — a classic North German village inn with a hall, which has hosted community events for decades. The hall can accommodate village festivals, weddings, and balls, and is the center of social life in Windbergen.
Course of a Classic Ernteball
An Ernteball typically follows a program: welcome address by the mayor or the organizing association's board, dancing with a band or DJ, small performances by village clubs, a raffle with prizes from the region (sausage and ham packages, basketry, regional specialties), and of course, plenty of food and drinks. Anyone looking for a glimpse of authentic Dithmarschen village life will find it here.
In the District of Dithmarschen
Windbergen is located in the District of Dithmarschen, one of Germany's oldest peasant republics, whose agricultural tradition dates back to the Middle Ages. The municipality belongs to the Amt Mitteldithmarschen and is accessible via the neighboring towns of Meldorf (district town) and Heide (central town). In the district, the harvest festival (Erntedank) is celebrated in many places with festivals, harvest crown parades, and balls.
