Hamburg's Wine Vernissage
WeinHamburg Frühling is Hamburg's February wine fair — the "Wine Vernissage for Wine Lovers and Connoisseurs", as the organizers describe themselves. For two days, the Hamburger Messe Halle B1 transforms into a 1,600-square-meter tasting area, showcasing the new white wine vintages recommended for the upcoming spring and summer months.
900 Wines, 90 Exhibitors
The dimensions are pleasingly manageable compared to large trade fairs like ProWein: around 900 wines from 90 exhibitors. This reduction makes the fair a true tasting marathon, allowing you to get a serious overview of current vintages in two days — without getting lost or exhausted.
Germany and the World
The exhibitors represent a focused spectrum:
- German wine regions — Mosel, Saar, Ruwer, Nahe, Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Baden — featuring wineries with a good reputation in their region
- Italy — from Piedmont to Veneto to Sicily
- Spain — Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Priorat
- France — Burgundy, Loire, Languedoc
- Austria — Wachau, Burgenland, Styria
- Plus Australia, South Africa, Chile
Family Wineries and Cooperatives
In terms of content, WeinHamburg emphasizes independent winemakers and family estates as well as importers and wine cooperatives that, according to the organizers, prioritize "high quality and distinctive character" over mass production. This makes the fair a must-attend event for gourmets and aspiring sommeliers — and a manageable destination for ambitious private enthusiasts.
Focus 2026: White Wines Vintage 2025
The spring fair traditionally focuses on the newly bottled white wines of the previous year's vintage — thus, in 2026, on the 2025 vintage. Fresh Rieslings, Silvaner, Grauburgunder, Sauvignon Blanc, and international white wine varieties dominate the offering, complemented by light rosés and early-drinking red wines.
