Hamburg's Running Classic
The Haspa Marathon Hamburg has been held every spring since 1986 — and is now Germany's largest marathon after Berlin and one of Europe's fastest marathons. Over 46,000 registrations for the 40th anniversary edition in 2026 speak for themselves: anyone looking for a fast marathon with a big-city atmosphere can't miss Hamburg. The main sponsor, Hamburger Sparkasse (Haspa), has given the race its name for a long time.
The Course — "Run the blue Line!"
The 42.195 km lead through the most beautiful parts of Hamburg: from the start at Hamburg Messe / Karolinenstraße via St. Pauli and the Reeperbahn to the Elbchaussee, then back to the Landungsbrücken, through HafenCity, along the Binnen- and Außenalster lakes to the finish at the TV Tower / CCH. The blue line on the asphalt marks the ideal line — hence the motto "Run the blue Line!".
More than Just a Marathon
The marathon weekend includes several competitions and events: Marathon on Sunday at 8:30 am, Half Marathon on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm, Marathon Relay (4 × 10.5 km), and the fun run for amateur athletes. The Marathon Expo at the exhibition centre opens on Friday and Saturday with exhibitors from running sports, nutrition, and travel.
Hamburg, City of Runners
With the marathon, the Alsterlauf half marathon, the triathlon events at Stadtpark, and the Cyclassics, Hamburg is one of Germany's top sports cities. The course initially leads through the Karolinenviertel district (Hamburg-Mitte borough) and ends in St. Georg. With its diverse waters — Alster, Elbe, Binnen- and Außenalster — the city offers a uniquely scenic marathon backdrop.

For its 40th anniversary edition, the Haspa Marathon Hamburg invites you on Sunday, April 26, 2026, with a revised start and course concept. More than 46,000 female and male runners have registered — all start places were already sold out in September 2025.
Start Waves
Start 1: 8:30 am from Karolinenstraße (Blocks A–L). Start 2: 9:00 am from Bei den Kirchhöfen (Blocks M–Q). Half Marathon Start: 2:00 pm.
Marathon Expo
Friday, April 24, 2026: 12:00 pm–7:00 pm (Marathon Expo, mandatory bib collection). Saturday, April 25, 2026: open all day. Location: Hamburg Messe.

Getting There
Start and finish area U2/U3 Messehallen or S-Bahn Dammtor. With a mass start of 25,000+ runners, arrive early.
Registration
Registration exclusively online via haspa-marathon-hamburg.de. Places for 2026 were already sold out in September 2025 — registration for the 2027 edition opens on April 29, 2026, at 10 am.
Good to Know
Marathon Expo Friday–Saturday with bib collection (mandatory). Pacemakers for different target times. Course records Men 2:03:28, Women 2:18:57. Aid stations every 5 km.
