Literature Meets Music in the Karo Quarter
The SEITENSPRÜNGE-Festival has established itself in Hamburg as a curated literature-music festival. Readings by renowned and emerging authors combine with live music, and after the readings, there's always a party — with drinks, conversation, and musical accompaniment. The format deliberately differs from dry reading-concerts: here, literature is celebrated as a social event.
Karo Quarter — Hamburg's Literary District
The main venue is the Karoline in the Karo Quarter — one of Hamburg's most characteristic districts, nestled between St. Pauli, Schanzenviertel, and Neustadt in the Hamburg-Mitte borough. For decades, the Karo Quarter has been home to alternative culture, small bookshops, and experimental events. The Karoline is the central meeting point for the scene.
Open-Air Variant in Summer
In August, the SEITENSPRÜNGE-Festival opens a second stage under the open sky: the Musikpavillon in Planten un Blomen — one of Hamburg's most beautiful parks, right in the city center. The open-air variant on August 13, 2026, offers a lighter summer atmosphere and a picnic format.
Tickets and Format
Tickets are deliberately kept low — starting from €10, with a €2 service fee and postage costs. Payment is via Reservix with PayPal, SEPA, credit card, Klarna, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. Those who buy a reading ticket receive a 50% discount on the party ticket.

The 2026 festival features two installments — the main format in April and an open-air variant in the summer.
Main Event April 10–11, 2026
On Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, 2026, the main festival takes place in the Karoline in the Karo Quarter. Readings by renowned and emerging authors, combined with live music and subsequent parties with drinks and conversation. Tickets from €12.00 plus service fee.
Open-Air Variant August 13, 2026
A summer variant opens on August 13, 2026, at the Musikpavillon in Planten un Blomen for an open-air format. Tickets are available from €10.00.
Festival Format
Readings are combined with music; after the readings, the festival party follows — those who purchase a reading ticket receive a 50% discount on the party ticket. Reservix is the sales platform, with payments via PayPal, SEPA, credit card, Klarna, Google Pay, and Apple Pay.
