One of the largest folk festivals in the Westpfalz from April 30 to May 10
The Maimarkt Pirmasens has established itself as one of the most significant folk festivals in the Westpfalz. For eleven days—from the last day of April to the second decade of May—it brings together showmen, traders, restaurateurs, and an enthusiastic audience from the entire region on the Meßplatz. The festival begins daily at 2 PM and unfolds its full atmosphere in the evenings.
Classic carousel attractions and spectacular new rides characterize the Maimarkt. Ferris wheels, loopings, haunted houses, and family rides stand side-by-side with food stalls and children's carousels. Each edition brings some new attractions that create special appeal. The mix of tried-and-tested classics and novelties is typical for the large German folk festivals.
The beer tent forms the convivial center of the Maimarkt. With live music in the evenings, cozy beer service, and classic folk festival cuisine, it is a meeting point for groups of all sizes. Party bands, cover bands, and regional acts perform on stage, providing the festive sound.
On Tuesday, May 5, and Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the market with over 50 traders will also take place on Blocksbergstraße. This market adds a traditional component to the Maimarkt—fabrics, household goods, sweets, regional products, and seasonal items are offered here.
Thursday, May 7, 2026, is Family Day: reduced admission prices and special offers make the day attractive for families with children. The grand finale will be the spectacular fireworks display over the Meßplatz on Sunday, May 10, 2026, around 10 PM—a traditional highlight that brings the Maimarkt to a festive close each year.
The 2026 edition continues the proven concept: eleven festival days with classic showman attractions, complemented by spectacular new rides and the diverse culinary offerings of folk festival culture. The Maimarkt has been a must-attend event in the Pirmasens event calendar for decades.
Exact band lineups, promotions, and daily prices will be communicated via the city of Pirmasens and the showmen.
