Swabian Culinary Festival at the Club House
The Maultasche is Swabia's culinary landmark — a filled pasta dumpling, said to have originated in the monasteries of Upper Swabia in the 17th century, and now known worldwide as "Schwäbische Maultasche." In the Tübingen district, every village has its own variation, and Ofterdingen — with just under 4,500 inhabitants, located between Mössingen and Tübingen on the edge of the Swabian Jura — has been celebrating it annually in its own festival since 2009.
The 17th Maultaschenfest 2026 will take place on Thursday, June 4, 2026 — Corpus Christi, a public holiday in Baden-Württemberg — at the Ofterdingen Music Band's club house. The organizer is the Ofterdingen Music Band, the local music club. Maultaschen will be offered in various preparations: classic in beef broth, with fried onions and pan-fried potatoes, pan-fried as patties, in a salad with vinegar and oil, as Swabian tapas with various sauces.
The Ofterdingen Music Band itself and guest ensembles from the Tübingen district will perform on stage. Repertoire: traditional Swabian brass music, Bohemian polkas, modern big band classics. Beer comes from regional breweries — mostly Hohenzollern from Hechingen or Berg from Ehingen. Swabian wines from the Württemberg wine region and non-alcoholic regional specialties are also available.
Since Corpus Christi is a public holiday, the Maultaschenfest is particularly suitable as a family outing. Play activities for children, a bouncy castle, and face painting are organized by the Ofterdingen Sports Club. The event is manageable — not a major festival, but a classic Swabian village festival with a culinary focus, which reinterprets Ofterdingen's local and club culture anew each year.
