City festival with Sunday shopping on Werl's market square from June 12th to 14th, 2026, featuring cover bands and a star performance on Saturday evening
If you come to the pilgrimage town of Werl in June, you'll likely stumble upon the Siederfest. From June 12th to 14th, 2026, the Wirtschaftsring Werl, the local traders' and entrepreneurs' association, will transform the Werl Market Square into the central city festival of the year — three days of cover bands, food stalls, a beer tent, and family activities in the heart of the old town.
The festival runs with the classic city festival rhythm: Friday from 4 PM, opening with a lively start; Saturday, the main program day with the star performance in the evening; Sunday, the family and shopping day with open shops and winding down until 6 PM. In between, cover bands on the market square stage — mostly regional bands with Schlager, pop, and rock repertoires — and continuous food and drink service (beer, bratwurst, fries, barrel tapping, and promotions by Werl restaurateurs).
Saturday evening is traditionally the program highlight: a renowned artist or band performs, coordinated by the Wirtschaftsring. Specific acts will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event. Cover bands and local acts play during the breaks; the main program focuses around 9-10 PM. Thousands of visitors from Werl, Soest, and the Hellweg region fill the market square on this evening.
Sunday, June 14th, 2026, is also a Sunday with open shops — Werl businesses open from 1 PM to 6 PM, welcoming festival-goers into the retail stores of the old town. This combination of city festival and shopping is the central economic logic of the Siederfest — the Wirtschaftsring Werl has designed the format precisely in this constellation.
The name Siederfest refers to Werl's historical significance as a brine town. Until the 18th century, salt was boiled from brine in Werl — an industry that brought prosperity and a unique character to the town. Street names and the historical salt museum still commemorate the brine economy. The city festival embraces this identity — not a tourist marketing idea, but a connection to the local history that is deeply rooted in Werl.
The organizer is the Wirtschaftsring Werl e.V. (Steinerstraße 41, 59457 Werl). A traders' and entrepreneurs' association that coordinates the entire Werl city festival program: the Siederfest in June, the Holland Market (returning for the first time in years in the 2026 season), the Beer Festival, and the Advent markets. The Wirtschaftsring is the structural anchor organization for Werl's city center life — comparable to the business associations of many Westphalian medium-sized towns.
Werl (around 31,000 inhabitants) is located in the southern Soest district on the edge of the Westphalian Basin. Known as a pilgrimage town — the Basilica of Mariä Heimsuchung houses the miraculous image "Comforter of the Afflicted" and has been a pilgrimage site since the 17th century. The old town with its market square, basilica, and half-timbered buildings is the natural center — and this is exactly where the Siederfest takes place. Werl is located on the Hellweg route of the A 2 motorway and is accessible via the A 44.
The 2026 Siederfest continues the proven format: cover bands, star performance, beer tent, Sunday shopping. The Wirtschaftsring Werl coordinates the program and is the first point of contact for exhibitors and sponsors. Unlike pure folk festivals, the Siederfest is more city-center oriented — Werl's businesses directly benefit from the Sunday shopping.
In 2026, the Wirtschaftsring announced a program expansion: parallel to the Siederfest, the Holland Market and the Beer Festival will return to Werl's event repertoire. This strengthening of the city center program is seen as a response to the ongoing competitive pressure from online retail and gives the 2026 Siederfest additional visibility.
Specific program and list of performing bands as well as the headline act will be announced by Wirtschaftsring Werl in the weeks before the event on wirtschaftsring-werl.de.
