Three days of brewery diversity on the market square of the pilgrimage town
The Werl Bierfest was first organized in 2025 by Lucas Risse together with the Werl economic development company GWS. Following the positive reception of the premiere, the Soester Anzeiger announced that the event will return in 2026 – with the same partners, the same location on the market square, and an expanded program. From Friday, April 24th, to Sunday, April 26th, 2026, the historic Werl market square will once again transform into a festival mile with beer stands, a stage, and gastronomy.
Werl is located in the southeastern district of Soest, on the edge of the Soester Börde and at the transition to the Sauerland. The town, with around 31,000 inhabitants, is known regionally primarily as a pilgrimage site of the "Comforter of the Afflicted" – a tradition that attracts pilgrims annually and shapes the cityscape around the Propsteibasilika. The Bierfest continues a different, younger tradition: that of civic festivals celebrating the self-confidence of the Sauerland suburb.
Werl's market square, with its distinctive town hall, half-timbered buildings, and cobblestones, forms the backdrop. For the three days, beer stands line the edges of the square, with long festival tables in the center and the stage at the front. The sightlines to the Walburgis Basilica and the historic city center are preserved – the Bierfest is not a mass folk festival, but a compact, urban event.
The focus is on breweries from the Sauerland and Westphalia – Veltins, Warsteiner, Krombacher, and smaller craft breweries are usually part of the assortment at Westphalian beer festivals. The final exhibitor list for 2026 will be published by the Wirtschaftsring shortly before the event. The tasting is complemented by live music on the stage – the organizer worked with cover bands and acoustic acts in 2025, and the concept is likely to be repeated in 2026.
The Wirtschaftsring Werl e.V. has represented Werl's retail trade and local businesses for years. Together with GWS – the municipal economic development agency – it bundles the central city events. The Bierfest complements Werl's event calendar, which also includes the traditional Hollandmarkt (which is also returning in 2026, as reported by the Soester Anzeiger).
After the successful premiere in spring 2025 – described by the Soester Anzeiger as a well-attended civic festival – the Werl Bierfest returns in 2026. The Wirtschaftsring Werl e.V. confirmed the repeat event together with GWS; the venue remains the market square, as does the central stage concept.
Breweries from the Sauerland, the Hochstift, and Westphalia are expected, offering classic lagers, Pils, and a selection of craft beers. The stage program will be announced by the organizer in due course on wirtschaftsring-werl.de.
The official 2026 program with bands and the brewery list will be published by the Wirtschaftsring Werl shortly before the date.
Free admission. Beers at usual fairground prices, food at the food stands also on-site. Tasting glasses can often be taken home as souvenirs.
Werl is located between Hamm, Soest, and Unna on the A 44 (Werl-Zentrum or Werl-Süd exit). Accessible by train via RE 11 and RE 6 (Werl station), from there approximately 700 meters on foot to the market square.
Friday, April 24, 2026: from late afternoon. Saturday, April 25, 2026: open all day until midnight. Sunday, April 26, 2026: from noon until early evening. Exact times will be published by the organizer shortly before the date on wirtschaftsring-werl.de.
