Oldtimer Meeting Walldürn-Gottersdorf — A Journey Through Time in the Museum Courtyard
When the sputtering engines and the typical smell of old gasoline fill the Odenwald Open-Air Museum courtyard on Whit Monday, May 25, 2026, the popular Oldtimer Meeting is back. From 10 AM to 6 PM, the historic open-air museum in the Walldürn district of Gottersdorf transforms into a vibrant time capsule. Vintage car enthusiasts and families from all over the Neckar-Odenwald district and beyond travel here – some to present their own classics, others to marvel, ask questions, and chat.
Variety of Vehicle Classes
The spectrum ranges from venerable pre-war sedans to the indestructible VW Beetle of the 1960s, a Mercedes /8, or an Opel Kadett B, to agricultural classics: Lanz Bulldog, Eicher Diesel, Porsche-Diesel, Deutz F1L514, and other tractors that once shaped agriculture in the Odenwald. Motorcycles (NSU, BMW R 50, Zündapp KS) and historic bicycles are also represented. Requirement: All vehicles must be from model years up to the 1970s.
Convoy by Gottersdorf Lake — The Highlight
At 3 PM, the highlight starts: a convoy around the museum grounds and Gottersdorf Lake. The procession is led by a very special vehicle – an Opel Blitz DL 18 from 1955, a historic turntable ladder fire engine of the town of Walldürn. The vintage cars follow in a self-selected order. You can either stand by the roadside and wave or – if you have a vintage car yourself – participate in the convoy.
Matchbox Show and 1950s Atmosphere in the Bär'sches Haus
An additional attraction: In the Bär'sches Haus (one of the historic museum buildings), a special exhibition of Matchbox model cars is running concurrently. Hundreds of original Matchbox models from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s are displayed in original packaging and in diorama settings. A small special exhibition on the atmosphere of the 1950s complements the exhibition – with radios, furniture, kitchen appliances, and advertising posters from the early Federal Republic of Germany.
Walldürn and the Odenwald Open-Air Museum
The town of Walldürn, with around 11,000 inhabitants, is located in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden-Württemberg, on the edge of the Odenwald forest. It is famous as a pilgrimage site due to the Holy Blood Pilgrimage. The district of Gottersdorf is home to the Odenwald Open-Air Museum, founded in 1973 – a collection of historic farmhouses, barns, mills, and workshops from the Odenwald, faithfully reconstructed here. The spacious, idyllic museum courtyard provides the perfect setting for an Oldtimer Meeting – classics on historic cobblestones, in front of centuries-old half-timbered gables.
