The Sommerfest in Weiß is an adaptation of the French tradition "Dîner en Blanc" (Dinner in White): an elegant open-air dinner where all guests are dressed completely in white, sit at white-laid tables, and enjoy a sophisticated menu. The original idea comes from Paris (1988), where artists and friends met at an unknown location in the city to celebrate an elegant open-air dinner. Today, the format is adopted in many cities in Europe and North America — in Walldürn, the Tourist Information brings this concept to the Schlossplatz annually.

The venue is the Schlossplatz Walldürn — the central square in front of the 18th-century Walldürn Castle. The historic backdrop of sandstone facades and baroque townhouses forms the ideal stage for the festival concept. At long white-laid tables, with white candles, white cloth napkins, and white table decorations, a special atmosphere is created — somewhere between a wedding, a gala dinner, and a summer picnic.

What you bring, what you get

The concept is clear: You come dressed completely in white — from head to toe, no accent in another color, which is the visual appeal of the whole event. You bring your own three-course meal, your own white wine (tip: a light Riesling or Müller-Thurgau from nearby Bauland), your own dishes, and cutlery. The entrance ticket for €12 includes a welcome glass of sparkling wine and water. The tables are decorated and prepared — guests take their seats at free spots or reserve a row of tables for their group in advance.

Walldürn — Pilgrimage site in Bauland

Walldürn is located in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden-Württemberg, in the so-called Bauland region between the Odenwald forest and the Bauland plateau. The town with its approximately 11,300 inhabitants is primarily known as a Catholic pilgrimage site: St. George's Basilica houses the famous "Holy Blood" pilgrimage and attracts tens of thousands of pilgrims annually.
