Non-commercial neighbourhood festival in Hamburg-Stellingen – club stands, stage, and family games on Wördemanns Weg
Stellingen is located in the Eimsbüttel district, in western Hamburg, between the core of Eimsbüttel and the border with Schleswig-Holstein. With around 24,000 inhabitants, Stellingen is a medium-sized district with mixed housing – terraced houses from before the war, multi-storey buildings from the 1950s to 1980s, and newer infill developments. Stellingen is also home to Hagenbeck's Zoo, one of Germany's most famous zoos.
The Stellingenfest is characterised as a "wonderfully pleasant neighbourhood festival for children and adults". It takes place on Wördemanns Weg – a residential street in the southern part of the district. The format is small and accessible: info stands from Stellingen clubs, a small stage with local acts (school choir, children's band, acoustic musicians), food stalls, and game stations.
A notable feature of the Stellingenfest is the strong participation of local political parties (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, SPD, CDU). They set up info stands with games – a popular highlight is shuffleboard, offered as a competition at one of the stands. This political presence reflects the culture of district politics in Stellingen, which is particularly active compared to many other Hamburg districts.
The festival is explicitly non-commercial. The organiser is the Stellingen district initiative, and the festival is organised on a voluntary basis. Food and drinks are sold at district prices, and profits go towards district projects. Admission is completely free.
In the Eimsbüttel district, the Stellingenfest is one of the smaller district festivals. Larger Eimsbüttel events include the Eppendorfer Landstraßenfest and the Altonaer Altonale series (formally in the Altona district, but with some Eimsbüttel participation). The Stellingenfest leverages its small scale – voluntary, neighbourly, with strong district political participation.
The 2026 edition will likely take place on a Saturday in early summer on Wördemanns Weg. The date announcement is expected in the spring of 2026 via the Stellingen district website and the Eimsbüttler Wochenblatt.
As usual, Stellingen clubs, political parties (Greens, SPD, CDU), and district initiatives will operate info stands. The stage will host local acts (school choir, children's band, acoustic musicians). Game stations – including the popular shuffleboard from the Eimsbüttel Greens – will complement the programme.
