About filmRaum Open Air

In August 2026, the filmRaum team will once again transform Stadtpark Eimsbüttel into an open-air cinema with an arthouse character. On Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, a main film will be shown after dark, and Fridays will feature a family program. Due to noise protection regulations, the picture is projected onto a large screen, and the sound is delivered via headphones — a technically elegant solution that also allows for the most delicate soundtrack moments.

Arthouse Cinema Under the Open Sky

Hamburg has established several open-air cinema formats in recent years — from Schanzenkino to the Filmfest in HafenCity. Among these, the filmRaum Open Air in Stadtpark Eimsbüttel stands out with its clear profile: not a blockbuster selection, but arthouse cinema. Independent films, arthouse productions, occasionally revivals of classic films — a curation aimed at cinema connoisseurs, rather than chasing the mass market.

Stadtpark Eimsbüttel

The venue is Stadtpark Eimsbüttel at Hagenbeckstraße 39, in the Eimsbüttel district of the same name. The park is a green oasis in densely populated Eimsbüttel, and due to its location between Hagenbeck Zoo and Lutterothstraße, it is one of Hamburg's liveliest family parks. The open-air screenings take place on an open meadow area that offers enough space for approximately 300 guests.

Headphones Instead of Speakers

A technical special feature: due to noise protection regulations, the sound is not broadcast through speakers but via headphones. Each visitor receives a wireless headset at the entrance and can adjust the film sound individually. This has two advantages: firstly, there is no noise pollution for the residents, and secondly, the sound quality is excellent due to the direct transmission into the headphones — even the most delicate soundtrack moments are audible.

Program Structure

The open-air cinema runs four days a week:

  • Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, from 9:00 PM (doors open 8:30 PM) — Main program: Arthouse, Independent, Classics. Tickets €10–€11.
  • Friday, from 6:00 PM — Family program: Animated films, family comedies, children's cinema. Doors open 5:30 PM. Main film typically at 9:00 PM for adults.

Comfort and Bringing Your Own

There are no fixed seats — visitors bring blankets or folding chairs. The maximum number of guests is limited to 300; reservations are not possible. Tickets are available online at filmraum.net or directly at the box office (cash or EC card).

District Connection

Eimsbüttel is one of Hamburg's most densely populated districts — making green spaces like the Stadtpark all the more valuable. The filmRaum Open Air utilizes this urban nature for a deliberately curated film program, establishing itself as the arthouse open-air cinema of Hamburg's west.
