Düren City Festival — 48 Years of Downtown Tradition

Probably on September 19 and 20, 2026, the city of Düren will celebrate the 48th edition of the Düren City Festival. The organizer is the Interessengemeinschaft (IG) City — the association of Düren's downtown businesses. Two days of downtown festival with several stages, a diverse music program of rock, pop, and party bands, as well as contributions from Düren's partner cities. On Sunday, combined with the Sunday shopping.

Several Stages, Diverse Music

The musical program is spread across several stages in Düren's city center. Party bands as well as rock and pop acts are represented on the stages. Local bands from the Rhineland mix with supra-regional acts — the exact lineup will be published in the summer of 2026 on DN-News and on dueren-city.de. The stages are distributed so that the entire city center becomes a world of sound — from the market square to St. Anna's parish church.

International Partner Cities Present Themselves

Düren maintains active city partnerships with four countries:

  • France — Düren is twinned with Valenciennes (Northern France) and Aulnoye-Aymeries (also Northern France)
  • Austria — with Spittal an der Drau (Carinthia)
  • Ukraine — with Slavutych (founded after Chernobyl)
  • China — with Liu Yang (Hunan Province)

Representatives from these partner cities will be present at the City Festival — with musical performances, information stands, and opportunities for interaction. A rare opportunity to talk with citizens from these four continents in Düren.

Sunday Shopping

On Sunday, Düren's shops are open for business from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This is the ideal combination: City festival atmosphere in the city center, plus a relaxed shopping Sunday. Those traveling from the region — Aachen, Cologne, Düren-Land, Bedburg, Erkelenz — should prefer Sunday over Saturday to experience the full downtown atmosphere.

Düren — Midway Between Aachen and Cologne

Düren is the district capital of the Düren district with around 92,000 inhabitants. It is located in the Rhenish lowlands between Aachen and Cologne, approximately equidistant from both major cities. Historically a paper industry city, Düren is now a transport and economic hub for the region. Famous are the Annakirmes (one of the largest Volksfeste in Western Europe in August) and the historic market square with the town hall.

Date Not Yet Officially Confirmed

As of May 2026, the exact date of the City Festival has not yet been officially confirmed. The estimate of September 19/20, 2026, is based on the historical date pattern (third weekend in September). For the final confirmation, it is worth checking dueren-city.de or the local DN-News.
